Jaguar Land Rover Pivi & Pivi Pro Infotainment System

The Jaguar Land Rover Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment system. Pivi, is the name for Jaguar Land Rover’s all-new infotainment system, developed from scratch, in partnerships with Qualcomm, Blackberry, Bosch and CloudCar.

According to JLR, Pivi is an “industry-leading design and shares electronic hardware with the latest smartphones”, meaning it has been future-proofed and will act as a solid base for Jaguar Land Rover to build on in the future. Jaguar Land Rover has been very quick to make it very clear, the “Pivi infotainment system” is not an evolution of its InControl infotainment system.

Pivi will replace InControl in all future Jaguar and Land Rover models. Currently, all Jaguar Land Rover vehicles built from 2022 onwards eg: Evoque, Velar, Defender, Discovery Sport and other models will feature Pivi Pro instead of the ageing InControl.

What Makes Pivi Pro So Special Then?

Pivi Pro features a smartphone-like interface, with a customisable flat menu structure, that makes usability as straightforward and intuitive as using your smartphone.

The hardware and operating system Pivi Pro is built on are also impressive. For starters, Pivi Pro is built on a Dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 820Am Automotive Platform with two Snapdragon X12 LTE modems and eSims. There is also a domain controller to help combine various advanced functions.

The feature-rich Pivi Pro infotainment system boasts the following.

  • A Fast startup aided by a dedicated battery/ power source
  • Ability to connect 2 smartphones at the same time
  • Integration of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including Adaptive Cruise Control Blind Spot Assist, 3D Surround Camera System and more.
  • Artificial Intelligence-based learning and controls of comfort settings
  • A powerful CPU to keep it responsive
  • Interactive Driver Display
  • Self-learning navigation, thanks to AI
  • Fully connected services and online entertainment
  • 2 eSIMs onboard: 1 eSim dedicated to Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) updates and the second eSim dedicated to entertainment and apps.
  • And more

Furthermore, the navigation system adapts and learns as you use it, for a more personal experience. Part of the job of the dedicated battery is to allow for a fast start-up so navigation is ready by the time you get behind the wheel.

The always-on and always-connected Pivi Pro setup ensures the embedded apps are always available to provide full functionality even without your smartphone.

Finally, with all these technologies onboard the Pivi Pro, Jaguar Land Rover can update software and features Over-The-Air and also remotely fix bugs without owners needing a visit to the dealership or retailer.

What Is The Technology Behind Pivi Pro?

The Pivi Pro infotainment system was launched with the arrival of the New Land Rover Defender. Featuring two embedded LTE modems and eSIM for enhanced connectivity. With this setup, one LTE modem and eSIM set is dedicated to Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA), while the other set deals with the daily creative tasks like streaming and app connectivity.

Powering the Pivi Pro are two Qualcomm Snapdragon 820Am Automotive Platforms, each with an integrated Snapdragon X12 modem. This platform is known to deliver high-tech integration to support telematics, infotainment and digital systems to enable next-generation in-car connectivity and intelligence.

On the operating system end, Jaguar Land Rover leveraged the Blackberry QNX operating system to provide the in-car experience every driver deserves, with added safety reliability and security, combined with smartphone-like experiences on the Pivi Pro, Interactive Driver Display and several features we have come to expect.

CloudCar and Bosch have also been very instrumental with the Pivi Pro. Jaguar Land Rover utilise ClouCar’s vast experience to further enhance driver comfort and convenience in areas like phone numbers and address recognition for calls and navigation.

Bosch’s partnership with Jaguar Land Rover has brought along technologies to further enhance the JLR experience through the amazing 3D Surround Camera System, Clear Sight Ground View, Wade Sensing, Blind Spot Assist and more.

Conclusion

The Pivi infotainment system has been generally well-received and has recently been recognised by AutoBest Awards Prestigious European motoring jury for the SMARTBEST award for best-connected technologies.

We recently had a chance to use the Pivi Pro system and found it very easy to use, well laid out, 70% faster than Incontrol and ultra-modern. The system has been through a few updates since 2022 and seems to just get better with each one.

This is definitely just the start for Jaguar Land Rover but a wonderful achievement to build on in the future. For more information about Pivi and Pivi visit the Jaguar Land Rover support website link below.
